Its funny since I started doing this site I have been struggling trying to find the right “graphic language” to represent the site recently I got hold of a copy of noise four by

Hurricane Katrina - American SUV ownership up from 3m to 80m under the Bush administration Category 4-5 hurricanes have nearly doubled over the past 35 years

Is it possible that you could take on the responsibility for the planet personally? How many more Hurricanes, Floods and impending messages of melting ice caps can we ignore?

I was talking with my girlfriend about her recent design project, called “ban it, deal with it!” focussing on global climate change she has been asked by her lectures to ban something that contributes to climate change, then promote the system put in place to deal with it.

Now in a round about way we were discussing baning the petrol engine and replacing it with the hybrid car or maybe even hydrogen cars, but I had a thought? what is it that cuases all the problems? what is the root of all this worry?

well its carbon dioxide (Co2)

What if we all decided that each of us became personally responsible for how much carbon we used? A simple way to calculate how much carbon we burned in a year? Then what if everyone gets a yearly quota? and governments penalise you if you exceed and reward you if stay under. Just imagine co2 would become a new currency or kind of like a sub currency only you get rewarded for NOT spending it.

Certainly not using your carbon quota would mean less far flung holidays, SUV’s would be only for those comitted few willing to spend the majority of thier CO2 quota or even pay fines to use them? Is this a rediculous left wing policy, I think not. Let me put it this way, we are all used to budgeting right? saving up or going without to have something special say a holiday or a new SUV (sic) well how about if you call it budgeting on carbon so the Human Race has a future?

A simple idea it seems? Well I’m not the first to think of it click here this guy actually put together a small white paper on how to calculate your own CO2 emmissions, but it seems that being held responsible for the earth we inhabit is a nastey thought for most of us.

Without going into to much detail (read the link for that) its safe to say that he concluded that we dont want to shoulder the blame, we want someone to blame. The reality of the situation is that until we take the responsibility and that is each of us personally, we really dont have much of a chance.

Life on our planet is under threat, the human race has perhaps two generations to rescue itself
