Something I really like and hate about autumn, what I like is that here in the South West of England on the North Coast there is a definate, noticable shift in the atmosphere, you can smell it, the sky which seemed such a deep blue over the summer, becomes a milky watercolour, a mixmash of fast moving and somehow heavier looking clouds and the sea goes an iron cold grey (being a surfer this not so nice – I start dreaming of emigrating to warm tropical waves feathered by an warm offshore breeze!!!)
The thing I really dont like is that it seems to come round so much quicker every year. I once posed this question to an artisitc friend of mine who replied “well thats becuase maybe the world is getting faster” well thats fine attack the laws of physics thats fine for an artist space and time can be made irrelevant !! but I think there is a more rational explaination, the problem is Advertising, how you ask,
Before we get the chance to absorb any of the loverly natural shift that is Autumn , adverts on TV in the paper (the ones which signalled the end of the summer at least stylistically) seem to be almost overnight replaced by some garish Argos advert complete with jingle bells and snow!!! argghghghghgh. all of a sudden everyones and thier mother is running around in blind panic worrying about christmas when its still bloody september!!! sod off I want more froliking in autumn leaves, M&S 30 somethings walking dogs with hats on at least until December then I’ll worry about christmas, or hang on should i be worring about next years summer holiday AGGHGHHGGHGHGHGHGHGH
Its no surprise time feels like its going faster when nearly every day an advert reminds us to worry about the future!!!
